Wilmslow Town Council has awarded a £2,490 community grant to Land Lane Allotment Association to fund an accessible toilet and composting unit at the site’s community hub.
Located on Prestbury Road in Wilmslow, Land Lane Allotments has more than 50 plots, alongside community plots overseen by Transition Wilmslow and the Association. Wilmslow Town Council has owned the site since 2019.
Land Lane Allotment Association provides friendship, advice and support for local gardeners, while promoting outdoor exercise, healthy food growing and opportunities for members to learn new skills together.
The grant has enabled the Association to complete the site’s communal facilities, helping it welcome more local people to a range of events, workshops and open days.
The new facility will also help strengthen links across the wider Wilmslow community, including with groups such as Transition Wilmslow, Wilmslow Wells for Africa, Hope Central Handforth, Wilmslow in Bloom and U3A.
Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Sally Harrison, said: “Allotments are not just about growing fruit and vegetables; they are about being outdoors and supporting physical and mental wellbeing.
“I was blown away by the commitment the members have shown. The allotments are bursting with all kinds of vegetables and fruit, and it is incredible to see how much the site has changed over the years.
“Land Lane Allotment Association has worked incredibly hard to create a welcoming community space, and members are already seeing the positive impact. The new hub is helping people stay longer, build connections and feel more involved in allotment life.
“This accessible facility means more residents can take part, learn new skills and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature.
“Wilmslow Town Council is proud to support improvements that make the site more welcoming, accessible and inclusive for the wider community.”
