Wilmslow Library has been awarded an £800 Community Grant from Wilmslow Town Council to help deliver a programme of free events and activities as part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a free national initiative that encourages school-aged children to enjoy reading over the summer while staying connected with their local library. Children taking part are challenged to read six books and visit the library at least four times during the holidays, earning rewards along the way before receiving a medal and certificate on completion.
The Community Grant will support a range of free events and activities taking place throughout the summer, giving children and families more opportunities to get involved in the Summer Reading Challenge. Planned events include:
- An illustrator event
- An animal and insect experience by ZooLab
- Two street dance and cheerleading sessions
- Library-run craft activities running throughout the summer
Councillor Sally Harrison, Wilmslow Town Mayor, said, “Wilmslow Town Council is delighted to support Wilmslow Library’s Summer Reading Challenge once again.
“The challenge is a fantastic way to encourage children to enjoy reading while taking part in fun, free activities throughout the summer. We’re pleased the Community Grant will help provide opportunities for local families to take part, and we hope lots of children enjoy everything the library has planned.
“Thank you to the library team for organising another great programme, and we wish everyone taking part a happy summer of reading.”
