We think that the quotation may have been adapted from a shorter quotation attributed to Benjamin Franklin; an American statesman, scientist, inventor, writer and diplomat who helped draft the US Declaration of Independence and became one of the country’s Founding Fathers.
It pretty much sums up what financial advice is all about. The rest is just noise!
We need to put away enough for our future selves, keeping one eye on actually having a life in the meantime. The balance between saving and spending is massively tricky.
Then when we get to an appropriate age, we need to start spending the capital that we’ve saved so diligently to accumulate. This is also really tricky.
The habits that made you a great saver don’t make you a good spender. In fact, it’s often the exact opposite.
And that’s the job in a nutshell. It’s what we do all day.
