A scheme to help young people develop green skills, that could lead to jobs or training, is under way in Trafford.
And there are still places available for 16 to 25-year-olds who would like to take part.
City of Trees’ Seeds Of Change programme is supported by Trafford Council. It is offering young people seeking education, employment or training a chance to try out working with nature and biodiversity.
Stretford Meadows is the venue for the series of taster days, which began in September. Sessions over the next few weeks can be attended in sequence or individually.
They include learning about species of native trees and how to manage them using shears, loppers, scythes and other tools.
The initiative ties in with the Council’s priorities to foster a thriving economy, provide the best start in life for children and young people, and address the climate crisis.
The scheme was awarded Economic Inactivity Trailblazer funding via the Council. Go to the City of Trees website to find out more and book a place.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “We are pleased to support this project. It is a great way for young people who are unsure of their next move to build some new skills and get a different perspective.
“Our partner City of Trees is working with the Council to offer this opportunity to try out forestry and conservation work, outdoors, in our natural environment. I’d urge any young person who is interested to give this a go.”
