2026 is the year Salford celebrates its 100th birthday as a city and the celebrations kicked off in style in April.
Creative stalwart Walk the Plank has spent the last few months searching for Salford residents of any age who share their birthday with Salford on 21 April.
Seven-year-old Samuel Brady-Romanu was one of the six shortlisted local residents and he was in for the surprise of his life as he walked into River View Primary School in Salford on his birthday, for what he thought was a normal day.
As he stepped through the school doors, Manchester Dhol players welcomed him with an entrance of all entrances playing the iconic Happy Birthday tune on double headed drums, turning the start of the day into a school-wide party. Adding to the atmosphere were the deliciously cute dancing Lemon, Cherry and Bubblegum cupcakes performed by dance students from the University of Salford.
That’s not all – as a huge 3m-high cake magically appeared in the school playground spreading confetti from the candles on top!
The celebration was produced by Walk the Plank who are working together with From The Other on a city wide cultural programme of celebrations for Salford 100.
