An area of character between two cities
Sitting in between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, the area of Wigan developed around mills and mining. Wigan Pier on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal was made famous by George Orwell in his book The Road to Wigan Pier. Now a local heritage and cultural quarter, this is just one area of the borough seeing large scale investment, transforming once industrial spaces into cultural, residential, business and leisure centres for a modern world.
Wigan Post is the dedicated local newspaper for the area, ensuring local people have access to local news and are kept informed about all that is happening and available to them in their local community and beyond. Wigan Post shines a light on the people and places working to make the area a great place to live and thrive.
