Digi Fest, a fun, friendly, digital-focussed festival will come to Wigan Borough this month, showing residents of all ages and abilities how technology can make everyday life easier, safer and more enjoyable.
Residents across the borough are invited to discover, explore and enjoy the world of technology at the free community festival from Digital Wigan. The festival will bring together local organisations, tech experts and community partners for two days of hands-on activities, entertainment and learning opportunities.
Councillor Nazia Rehman, Leader of Wigan Council, said: “We live in an increasingly digital world, and Digi Fest is here to make tech fun and accessible for the whole family.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity to explore new technologies, learn practical digital skills, and discover the support available within our community. Whether you are taking your first steps online or looking to build on existing knowledge, there will be something for everyone.”
Taking place at Leigh Library on Tuesday 11 August from 2pm – 6pm and Wigan Library on Thursday 13 August from 11am – 3pm, the festival will feature a packed programme of activities.
Residents can get hands on with technology including gaming, coding and virtual reality in tech discovery zones, take part in an exciting cyber escape room or explore pop ups from partners including ComputerXplorers and Daresbury Laboratory.
Digital Wigan’s flagship support service, TechMates, will be on hand at both events to provide basic guidance on technology and offer friendly advice to those interested in using their own skills to volunteer with the team.
Each festival will also host a marketplace packed with local services, support organisations and businesses, including council services such as Family Hubs, Be Well, and Adult Learning. Stalls will help residents to learn about opportunities to build skills, connect with others and boost their wellbeing across the borough, with free health checks also available at the Wigan event.
Coun Rehman, added: “Digi Fest is the latest innovative offer from the Council’s digital communities team, Digital Wigan, who have been helping local residents for five years, and launched their Access for All initiative earlier this year, bringing devices and connectivity to residents in need.
“Their collaborative and community led approach has also seen them work closely with Family Hubs across the borough to open DigiDens – spaces where residents of all ages can get online and receive support and advice. Digi Fest promises to bring the same exciting, collaborative and accessible approach to making the digital world inclusive to all.”
